Ephedra and Ephedrine

Ephedra is an herb species that is commonly found in desert areas. One of the constituents of this species is Ephedra sinica, commonly known by its Chinese name of Ma Huang. The main active ingredients in Ephedra are the alkaloids pseudoephedrine and ephedrine, which occurs in different concentrations depending on the particular Ephedra species. Ephedrine is one of the chemical derivatives of several species of Ephedra, including Ephedra sinica. Ephedra and ephedrine work by stimulating the cardiovascular and the central nervous systems.

Effects of Ephedra and Ephedrine
Ephedrine has the same effect on the body as epinephrine and norepinephtine, which are chemicals that occur naturally in the body and are responsible for the reactions brought about by the ‘fight or flight’ syndrome. During a ‘fight or flight” phase, the body tenses up and either gears up to ‘fight’ the adversity or prepares for ‘flight’ to escape the situation. During this time there are a host of reactions caused in the body, including:
• Increased blood pressure
• Faster heart beat
• Increased blood flow to all parts of    the body including the brain
• Increased production of heat in the    body or thermogenesis
• Increased basal metabolic rate

Taking ephedra or ephedrine stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and causes reactions in the body that are similar.

Uses of Ephedra and Ephedrine
Because of the reactions caused in the body by ephedra and ephedrine, many people buy products containing ephedra as an appetite suppressant and also for losing weight. People also buy ephedra for medical reasons.

Appetite suppressant: Ephedra and ephedrine affect the hypothalamus, which is the part of the brain that regulates feeling of satiation or hunger. When ephedra and ephedrine are imbibed, carbohydrate reserves and stored fat are mobilized, causing the brain to release feelings of satiation, thus acting to suppress appetite.
Weight loss: Ephedrine, which is the active ingredient of ephedra, increases the rate of metabolism and causes the body to burn sugar as well as fats more efficiently, leading to loss of weight. When combined with caffeine, it provides a highly effective and powerful weight loss supplement. When using ephedrine combined with caffeine, care should be taken to stay hydrated and lower your intake of coffee in order to prevent any adverse effects.
Medical: Ephedra and ephedrine also act as bronchodilators. During asthmatic attacks, ephedrine promotes relaxation by its reaction on the smooth bronchial muscles. Pseudoephedrine and synthetic ephedrine are commonly used in over-the-counter medications for nasal congestion, hay fever and asthma.

Vasopro Ephedrine
Vasopro Ephedrine, which contains ephedrine hydrochloride as one of its main ingredients, is one of the most popular of all products containing ephedrine. Vasopro Ephedrine acts as an expectorant as well as a bronchodilator. It provides faster relief from symptoms that are present during bronchial asthma, including chest congestion, breathing difficulty and panting. Vasopro Ephedrine also loosens the mucus and helps in thinning the bronchial secretions so that they are easily drained by the bronchial tubes. This makes coughs more productive and also provides relief during bronchial asthma. Vasopro Ephedrine is used purely as a medical aid and not as a dietary supplement. It can be purchased over-the-counter with out a prescription; however the purchase is limited to 12 boxes per customer per month.
